Technical Presales Consultant - Microsoft Security
Help customers strengthen security with Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Entra and Purview through trusted advice, practical roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
We’re looking for an experienced, customer-focused Technical Presales Consultant to help customers improve their security posture and resilience using the Microsoft Security portfolio. You’ll act as a trusted adviser across identity, threat protection, security operations, data security, compliance and cloud security, translating customer risk and operational priorities into practical Microsoft solutions and measurable security outcomes.
You’ll combine technical depth, consultative discovery and commercial awareness to turn customer priorities into credible Microsoft solutions, funded engagements and delivery roadmaps. The emphasis is on meaningful, measurable customer outcomes rather than technology for its own sake.
What you will do
Act as a trusted technical adviser throughout the sales lifecycle, from early discovery and qualification through solution design and proposal to handover to delivery
Lead customer workshops to uncover business objectives, technical requirements, risks, adoption barriers and desired outcomes
Translate customer requirements into high-level architectures, roadmaps, statements of work, demonstrations and proof-of-value scenarios
Present confidently to technical teams, business stakeholders and executives, adapting the detail and value narrative to suit
Work with sales colleagues to qualify opportunities, shape value propositions and identify professional services, licensing and managed service opportunities
Collaborate with architects, consultants, project managers and managed service teams so solutions are deliverable and supportable
Support Microsoft co-sell activity and work effectively with Microsoft account teams and specialists
Share structured customer insight with Product Management, Service Delivery and Microsoft Alliance teams to help shape our services and propositions
Microsoft Security
Provide deep subject-matter expertise across the Microsoft Security portfolio and how it fits with Microsoft 365, Azure, Modern Work, Data and AI
Lead security discovery and posture conversations covering identity, endpoints, applications, cloud workloads, data, compliance and security operations
Design and position Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Entra and Purview solutions aligned to customer risk, maturity and operational needs
Advise on Zero Trust, identity and access, threat protection, SIEM and SOAR, XDR, cloud security posture, data governance and regulatory considerations
Help customers define prioritised security roadmaps, target operating outcomes, adoption plans and measurable improvements, rather than isolated technology deployments
Position Microsoft Security Copilot and AI-assisted security capabilities appropriately, including readiness, governance and secure adoption
Frontier Accelerate for Security and funded engagements
Lead or support Frontier Accelerate for Security and other Microsoft-funded engagements, from envisioning and proof of concept to assessment, deployment and adoption
Scope engagements accurately, validate prerequisites and licensing assumptions, agree success criteria and keep the evidence and documentation the programme needs
Support customer outcomes across Microsoft Sentinel deployment and use-case development, Defender adoption, Defender for Cloud, Entra and Purview where relevant
Deliver executive-ready security findings, risk-based recommendations, prioritised roadmaps and clear next steps
Work with Microsoft and colleagues to turn funded engagements into sustained security improvement, professional services and managed security service outcomes
Technical knowledge
Microsoft Defender XDR, including Defender for Endpoint, Office 365, Identity and Cloud Apps
Microsoft Sentinel: security operations, SIEM and SOAR concepts, analytics, automation and use-case development
Defender for Cloud: cloud security posture management and workload protection across cloud and hybrid environments
Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, identity governance, privileged access and Zero Trust
Purview: information protection, data loss prevention, insider risk, governance and compliance
Intune and endpoint security, plus Security Copilot and AI-assisted security operations
High-level knowledge of Azure architecture, networking, Microsoft 365 and integration with managed SOC services
Key Experience
Typically 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies in technical consulting, solution architecture, engineering or presales
Strong customer-facing experience delivering discovery sessions, workshops, technical presentations, demonstrations and solution recommendations
Evidence of designing Microsoft solutions for mid-market or enterprise customers and connecting technical decisions to business outcomes
Commercial awareness, including opportunity qualification, scoping, effort estimation, risk identification and contributing to proposals and statements of work
Strong documentation, stakeholder management, facilitation and presentation skills
Microsoft certifications
We expect you to hold current Microsoft certifications and keep them up to date. That means:
A Microsoft Security, Compliance and Identity certification at Associate or Expert level
Current certifications that match your main security specialisms
Equivalent qualifications are fine too.
It’s a bonus if you have:
Cybersecurity Architect Expert, or a current equivalent
Security Operations Analyst Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate, Identity and Access Administrator Associate or Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate
Microsoft Applied Skills for Sentinel, Defender, Entra, Purview or Security Copilot
Microsoft Certified Trainer

Quality and business impact of security discovery, solution recommendations and funded engagements
Conversion of qualified opportunities into security professional services, licensing adoption and managed security outcomes
Customer satisfaction and measurable improvement against agreed security outcomes and roadmaps
Growth of the Microsoft Security pipeline and contribution to Microsoft partner priorities and specialisations
Customer insight that improves our security services, plus reusable assets, demonstrations and standards that build the wider practice
What you will bring
A customer-first mindset and a passion for solving real business problems
