Drive Innovation as a Cloud and Managed IT SQL Database Administrator!
Intercity Technology is seeking an experienced and proactive Cloud and Managed IT SQL Database Administrator to join our dynamic Managed IT function on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract. This strategic and hands-on role is focused on stabilising, modernising, and optimising the internal platforms that power our core business operations.
You’ll lead the evaluation and enhancement of key internal systems particularly MOES and Affinity. Identifying architectural risks, technical debt, and performance challenges. Key Responsibilities:
Platform Discovery & Architecture Review
- Lead a structured review of our MOES and Affinity SQL Server environments.
- Identify and document risks, inefficiencies, and architectural issues.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand system history and pain points.
- Produce a detailed findings report with prioritised recommendations.
Remediation & Continuous Improvement
- Develop a roadmap for SQL Server remediation and enhancement.
- Deliver quick wins and long-term improvements to platform stability and scalability.
- Support automation and modernisation initiatives across SQL Server environments.
Database Administration & Performance
- Install, configure, and manage SQL Server instances.
- Optimise performance at server, database, and query levels.
- Collaborate with developers to refine stored procedures and database logic.
Operations & System Health
- Design and test robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Perform patching, upgrades, and maintenance to ensure availability and compliance.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance trends.
Security & Governance
- Review and harden database security configurations.
- Manage access controls and support compliance with Cyber Essentials and data protection standards.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain clear documentation of system architecture, configurations, and procedures.
- Share knowledge and support cross-functional teams in audits, investigations, and change delivery.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Experience & Skills
- 5+ years as a SQL Server DBA supporting enterprise-grade systems.
- Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2012+), including HA/DR, performance tuning, and T-SQL.
- Proven experience conducting architectural reviews and producing actionable improvement plans.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Experience with backup/recovery, capacity planning, and SQL Server security best practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with business-critical platforms (e.g., CRM, ERP, Portals).
- Familiarity with MySQL or other RDBMS.
- Knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, ETL processes, or reporting platforms.
- Exposure to Azure SQL or cloud-based database hosting.
- Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices for databases.
Certifications (Required or Strongly Recommended):
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)
- Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Development (MCSA/MCSE or equivalent)
- ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management (Desirable)
